We remember Bruce Shingledecker
August 9th 1945 - January 2007

Bruce ShingledeckerAlaskan artist Bruce Shingledecker painted intriguing, and spine-tingling scenes of Alaskan wildlife with a humorous touch! From polar bears, brown bears and wolves, to orca whales and sea lions, his work captures the character and charm of Alaska's diverse wildlife.

He portrayed these beautiful creatures colorfully and imaginatively, and gave each animal a unique personality and his trademark clear and penetrating eyes. Each piece has a distinct atmosphere and sense of feeling that is instantly recognized as Shingledecker. In selected original pieces, he even used real Alaskan glacial silt as a subtle and unique texturing medium!

Shingledecker's talents and genius were far reaching. Not only did he paint beautifully, but he did graphics and sculpture and was a musician, composer and linguist as well. After graduating from the Chicago Academy of Art, he served in the Peace Corp in Asia, was a commercial artist, taught art in the Juneau public school system and was an English professor in the private sector of Japan.

He remained a true Alaskan at heart though and loved to paint the Alaskan wild animals which surrounded him.

ShingledeckerHis work is loved greatly and well-collected. A selection of his most stunning images have now been produced as limited edition signed prints. So far there are twenty-one different prints are available. Each one is more amazing than the next. 'Dawn' is the newest and we carry them all! They are all wonderful, very popular and -- also available as a miniature print. Collect them all!
